The ISSW Young Snow Professionals Awards were announced, and they include two members of the Canadian avalanche community.
Seth Hewie, a CAA Avalanche Practitioner, and Jacopo Borsotti, a PhD student at Simon Fraser University’s Avalanche Research Program, are among the five award recipients. They are joined by Patrick Jenewein of Austria, Leonie Kommerell of Norway, and Itai Sheleg from the United States.
Hewie is an avalanche and GIS technician with Alpine Solutions, based in Whitehorse, Yukon. He supports operational avalanche programs for highway and industrial projects and contributes year-round to avalanche modelling, cartography, UAV surveys, LiDAR processing, and GIS production.
Borsotti is a PhD candidate at SARP. His doctoral research focuses on integrating ensemble modelling and synthetic aperture radar remote sensing into operational avalanche forecasting.
