Applied Avalanche Research Opportunity At SFU

The Simon Fraser University Avalanche Research Program is seeking applications for a 2.5-year PostDoc position in applied avalanche research.

Pascal Haegeli announced in the Fall 2026 issue of The Avalanche Journal that he is leaving SFU to take on the leadership of the Snow Avalanche and Prevention research unit at the Swiss Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF in Davos, Switzerland.

His upcoming departure has created an urgent need for the Canadian avalanche community to maintain and further develop applied avalanche research capacity in Canada.

The PostDoc was established to fill the void in the short-term while the Canadian avalanche community works to secure another academic professor position in avalanche risk management within the next two years.
