Special Public Avalanche Warning Issued for Most of B.C. and Alberta

Update: The SPAW has been extended until the end of Thursday, March 7.

Avalanche Canada has issued a Special Public Avalanche Warning covering almost all forecast regions in B.C. and Alberta, including the National Parks. The warning is in effect until the end of Thursday, March 7.

The warning follows significant snowfall across much of Western Canada.

“This new snow sits on prominent weak layers established during drought conditions in February. In some areas, there is more than one weak layer,” advises Avalanche Canada. “As the active storm period passes, widespread natural avalanche activity will slow. However, human-triggered avalanches remain likely.”
