Video: Winning the Avalanche Game

The Utah Avalanche Center recently posted their 1996 avalanche education video, Winning the Avalanche Game, online. The video was produced, directed, and edited by former UAC director Bruce Tremper. It was the first avalanche safety video produced in North America and, while parts of it feel dated, there’s still lots of relevant information in it. It makes for a great trip down memory lane.

For many years, this was the standard video for most avalanche classes. It was one of the first projects done by the fledgling Forest Service National Avalanche Center with Doug Abromeit and Bruce Tremper working together. While some parts may seem dated, the info in these videos is still very valid. Watching it all is a great refresher.  Videos like this are common now, and it’s hard to appreciate how cutting-edge this video was at the time. We’re proud of all the work done by Bruce and the rest of the previous UAC staff which is why we’re posting these videos.
