The Fall 2023 issue of The Avalanche Journal is now available free, online, through our complete Journal Archives. This issue goes in depth into how different operations managed the deep persistent slab problem that plagued the snowpack of much of British Columbia over the 2022-23 winter. This issue includes insights from Avalanche Canada, Selkirk Lodge, CMH, ACMG Ski Guide Penny Goddard, and snowmobile guide Julie-Anne Chapman.
The issue also includes research into how avalanche forecasters differentiate between wind slabs and storm slabs, and into transceiver interference. Finally, it features an excerpt from our CAA History Project interview with former CAA Executive Director Clair Israelson.
